Bluesky’s added user verification in a way that’s not entirely bad. Different entities can become verifiers. So if you run a company you can verify your own employees. Bluesky PBC also will run a verifier. I think this isn’t a terrible solution to preventing impersonation.

Anybody got a good ethical domain name registrar? I’ve been using Gandi.net since it was founded 25 years ago, but it got acquired by your.online in 2023. For a while nothing much changed except for they tried to upsell me to some stuff i didn’t want.
But now i’m noticing that they’re getting noticeably less reliable. Updating name and nameserver records isn’t reliable, paying for things fails more often, their web interface has bugs. Basically they’re letting gandi die as they try and upsell people to their crap Total Webhosting Solutions stuff.
So, what ethical registrars are there?

This clearly is Trump’s rambling speculation not a policy, as such, but Trump’s suggesting that people convicted of anti-tesla vandalism be sent to El Salvadorian force labor camps created to in prison suspected gang members.
The idea of removing Americans from the jurisdiction of the American legal system as part of their punishment for political protest and civil disobedience is really dangerous. If Trump and the government wants to charge people committing anti-tesla vandalism, they should do it with local police, prosecutors, and judges.

The state of US politics is disturbing. Trump is going after people in a cruel and vindictive way that authoritarians do when they think they’re invincible. Yet the Democrats, especially Chuck Schumer can’t figure out what to do about it. They’re not even a loyal opposition. Instead they’re standing on the sidelines watching the American system of separation of powers get replaced with a unitary power of the executive. Despite this being the fundamental justification of legitimacy for the while government.
I recommend folks read this essay by nostr:npub1fdpmg4ql7gv94exjj5uj53w2yv8wy75x9sp7velwurzmlcpvjsvqz8cay5 calling on Schumer to resign. It’s compelling argument.

If people think Nostr is a crypto or blockchain protocol they think it’s some scam. That’s the reality of how all crypto is viewed by the average normie.
Nostr is not a blockchain project. It’s got some nice integration with lightning, but it’s not a bitcoin project either.
It’s an open super flexible permissionless protocol that lets us rebuild everything of Web 2.0 but in a way that puts users in control and allows for real privacy through end to end encryption. Let’s sell Nostr based on all the amazing things is can do.

Back in the day i was really excited about the USDS….
https://blogs.worldbank.org/en/opendata/what-exactly-us-government-s-digital-services-playbook
But the thing is, nobody gave it teeth to actually make changes. So it was this kind of optional advisory service..
I think with the use of good open source tech a LOT of government services could be made MUCH better if we replace bureaucratic processes with software.

I don’t know … I would love to replace most of government with software 😜
At least then you know you press a button and something is happening. Open source or, separate out the funding function so people don’t set their own budget but have it do all the calculating for you - all verifiable of course.
We’d save so much money, things would run way more smoothly and if something breaks, just install the latest update. nostr:note1asnmep7fm0amr59q56fxpaceta8seee0je0zkc77a0ddkdc3r90qnpxwce

The Bluesky team has an academic paper describing the protocol that’s a pretty good high level but somewhat technical overview. It includes how they see Bluesky compares to Secure Scuttlebutt, Nostr, Farcaster, and ActivityPub/Mastodon.
I think folks who are building Nostr apps or advocating for it in comparison to Bluesky would do well to read it to understand what they’re doing and how we’re different.
We should also write up one for Nostr.

It looks like the blastr at wss://nostr.mutinywallet.com is offline.
Anybody know if that’s a temporary thing or a decision to take it offline?

Someone made a bot to display all deleted content on Bluesky. I think this would be hard to do with Nostr because you’d need a couple of the original first before the relays got the delete and I suspect relays don’t keep around the delete events either.

As we struggle with spam and other trust, safety, and moderation issues in Nostr folks might find looking at what’s happening in Bluesky to be interesting. Lots of similar problems, different solutions.
