It's very rare that I directly recognize locations from photos on nostr, but I've actually been here back in 2024 😁. Tokyo is soooo much fun

Reminder: most people are happy to pay taxes to fund things they value but are impractical to fund otherwise

So… they value it but won’t fund anything. Must be stolen from. Got it.

Except that the private sector isn't going to allocate anything to things that citizens clearly value but that are not profitable (when measured in $)

Seems some people don’t understand how slashing government works… the idea is not to give breaks to the “good causes” because govt is an inefficient allocator and incentives are complete skewed once free money is expected. The whole point is to slash indiscriminately so that the private sector can allocate much more efficiently.

You started out "How is this even legal" You're now at "They can get funded by their own citizens” (which they largely are, USAID contributed only ~15%) That's progress 👍
Karnage 2/7 19:48:12 💕
I don’t care what good they do. They can get funded by their own citizens.

Did you consider the difference between the BBC and the BBC Media Action? Which charitable activities of BBCMA do you think are so evil? Was it the support of local radio stations to tackle an Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone? Was it the emergency broadcasts after a massive earthquake in Nepal? Or perhaps the dissemination of information to civilians on how to avoid mines in Ukraine (now the most money country in the world)
Karnage 2/7 19:37:08 💕
Yeah… taxpayer money donated to media organization. I don’t think US citizens realize their money is funding BBC…

Here's their track record, 25 years of BBC Media Action. Most of it is giving a voice/platform to marginalized groups and promotion of freedom of speech. Anything specific that you think is amoral or illegal? https://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaaction/25years
