I have been renewing my relationship with God for the past few years. I try to view my prayers as a conversation and providing thanks. I do ask but rarely. I try to focus more on being thankful for what I have, and give thanks in a manner for future blessings trying to show my faith in what's to come. I don't know if that's correct, but it's how I'm going about it.
I also try to pray multiple times a day at least once on the early morning walk and at night walk with other times just in the day. I have made an effort that as soon as I tell someone I will be thinking of them and keeping them in my prayers I just go ahead and pray for them after.

I have never asked God for patience out of fear of how it would be provided. Then I had kids asked for patience and ended up with a psychopath puppy. See ...... that's what I was scared of and now I have asked for patience again. It's getting dangerous at my house
Joking aside you are right. It's frustrating to too because I see one of my own issues carrying over. I have been blessed with amazing kids though overall
