Gm nostr, this week is flying by, and i need to make some progress on alot of things today. This time of year for us is mostly trying to keep things alive, both animals and plants. Although i will say that compared to other summers, this one has been mild. I was just wondering when our young hens should start laying eggs. We've been gifting family with eggs lately, and next time they see me they give me their empty cartons and say they would love more if we have extra. For a while we had tons extra, but now we need to catch up. But i love gifting fresh eggs. Hi nostr, we had to come inside for a break since it started raining once again. We just had a bit of a tragedy here on the homestead, so i'm feeling sad. Our old dog TJ, who was about 13 years old, was laying under the truck when my husband went to move it. She usually gets up and moves as soon as she hears a vehicle start up, but i guess this time she was too slow to move, and my husband didnt know she was there. I was in the chicken run and heard a yelp, and ran to see what happened. TJ's injuries were obviously fatal, and we both knew it. She was in alot of pain, so my husband had to put her down. She was a great companion to us, and i'll always picture her playing in the woods. #dogstr #homesteading #TJ

We just finished assembling the new coop and run, for the pullets and baby chicks that are outgrowing their spaces. Just need to build nest boxes for them, and it should be good for the summer. #homesteading #chickens

Good morning nostr friends, i'm looking at a bowl of chile piquin peppers on the counter, and need to remind myself to make time to dehydrate some of them. I love to dehydrate peppers, then grind into powder to make a seasoning. Last year i did this with a variety of peppers, and mixed them all up in the grinder, the result was so tasty. Anyway, today i'll be working on the backyard project most of the day, then we're meeting at a friend's house later in the day, just a get together to catch up.
