Life in the country can be alot of work, depending on how you set it up. But it doesnt have to be hard, you can just find a spot and enjoy. Do what your heart tells you. For me, i love living away from traffic and crowded places. I will say that you should do what makes you happy, because thats what life is all about.😊. Btw, i'm glad you found your way to nostr.

Gm nostr, this week is flying by, and i need to make some progress on alot of things today. This time of year for us is mostly trying to keep things alive, both animals and plants. Although i will say that compared to other summers, this one has been mild. I was just wondering when our young hens should start laying eggs. We've been gifting family with eggs lately, and next time they see me they give me their empty cartons and say they would love more if we have extra. For a while we had tons extra, but now we need to catch up. But i love gifting fresh eggs. Hi nostr, we had to come inside for a break since it started raining once again. We just had a bit of a tragedy here on the homestead, so i'm feeling sad. Our old dog TJ, who was about 13 years old, was laying under the truck when my husband went to move it. She usually gets up and moves as soon as she hears a vehicle start up, but i guess this time she was too slow to move, and my husband didnt know she was there. I was in the chicken run and heard a yelp, and ran to see what happened. TJ's injuries were obviously fatal, and we both knew it. She was in alot of pain, so my husband had to put her down. She was a great companion to us, and i'll always picture her playing in the woods. #dogstr #homesteading #TJ

Yesterday evening we were invited to go to dinner with some friends, so we did because we hadnt seen them in a while. But i just need to quit eating out i guess. We hardly ever eat out just for the fun of it, but when we do, i can always tell my body doesnt like it. Even supposedly "nice" restaurants leave me feeling not great. Good morning nostr friends, i'm looking at a bowl of chile piquin peppers on the counter, and need to remind myself to make time to dehydrate some of them. I love to dehydrate peppers, then grind into powder to make a seasoning. Last year i did this with a variety of peppers, and mixed them all up in the grinder, the result was so tasty. Anyway, today i'll be working on the backyard project most of the day, then we're meeting at a friend's house later in the day, just a get together to catch up. Yeah, if you connect Minibits to your Nostr apps with NWC, you can do one-tap zaps.
I like how Alby Hub allows for self-custody, but currently it's not the best option for people to use as a daily driver unless they have home server setups or feel like paying for hosting.

Wow, thats alot of good info, thank you. I'm starting to think it would just be much less complicated to switch to minibits or similar, and not use alby. I gave it a shot because the email they sent me said that custodial alby wallets would be deprecated eventually. Could i still do one tap zaps with minibits?

I've done the same thing: self-hosted on my laptop.
The thing is, a Lightning node has to be on to send and receive zaps. Laptops aren't the best for that because they're designed to be easily shut off and carried around.
My solution is to have the Alby Hub on my laptop as my personal "bank," and use a separate wallet (Minibits, in my case), to send and receive zaps on Nostr.
So I can refill my Minibits wallet from the Alby Hub, then turn off the hub. Or vice versa I can send sats to the hub, then turn it back off. So most of my sats are in the hub and self-custodied, but I'm not using it as my "daily driver."
All that being said, to get the hub working with Nostr zaps, you'd have to set it up with Nostr Wallet Connect. Without NWC, it should be able to receive sats over your Alby address as long as the hub has a channel open. However, I think you'd have to manually approve zaps on the hub, unless you connect the app from which you're sending zaps with NWC. And then it would work as long as you laptop is online.
I'm still learning this stuff myself, but that's what I've gleaned so far. Happy to chat about it more, if it will help!

I opted for self hosted, on my laptop. I was able to open a channel, but i could not seem to do zaps properly. Maybe a connection issue with node and my lightning address? Although it appeared that it connected. I'm not super techy, so probably just error on my part.
