My loose opinion (no data or facts to provide) is that Nostr is mostly a monoculture. If you deviate, you either become unpopular at worst, or just unnoticed at best. There are a handful of popular people from that monoculture who came here from Twitter and now dominate. If they don't boost you, you're probably going to have a very small sphere of influence.
I think this causes a feedback loop to makes it harder for Nostr to grow. Creatives who have little or nothing to do with this monoculture have little reason to come (who would they talk to), and so do the people who typically consume their creations by extension.
I think the long term success of Nostr will probably require some solution that is totally separate from the Bitcoin and Nostr communities. I don't have an answer for this since most of it's early adopters and builders come from Bitcoin and adjacent topics. It's kind of the same problem. How do you attract outside builders who want to build for people who care about more than Bitcoin and Nostr? Ideally, time will relegate these topics to the fringes since most people will use them and have no idea or interest in the tech. That's not the case now, so any other topic or person is bound to get less attention unless they post things that riles that community up. And then this is a negative incentive, in my opinion, which leads to toxicity and contributes to the aforementioned feedback loop.
I bet nostr:nprofile1qqsph3c2q9yt8uckmgelu0yf7glruudvfluesqn7cuftjpwdynm2gygpp4mhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mqpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezumrpdejq0mz6zs has thought about this to some degree.

It's different because the US Congress hasn't technically declared it. I agree with you that it hardly matters though. That said, I wouldn't think to supply weapons for war unless I was at war, and I'd certainly figure out what the fuck they're being used for before committing to supply them. And if there are standards (only these targets that I support), you're basically at fucking war. I've been depressed the past few months and identified part of the cause. Most of my friends and family have to work a lot more to keep up with the fiat system and their own poor financial choices. I no longer have to. Without school and so much work, I've had a lot more time to do whatever I want. I've felt guilty about it even though I intentionally chose this path. I didn't realize I felt so guilty until recently. It seems fucked up that I've been conditioned to feel guilty for making freedom focused choices. I also feel lonely because I can't relate to a lot of things my friends, family, and colleagues are experiencing. At first I tried helping some of them out of the cycles they stay stuck in, but that made things worse.
I feel like a dick for thinking it, but maybe I've outgrown some of these people and need new people in my life, and/or a new or harder goal. I don't know the answer, but it sucks.
Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

It's more about the nature of 'nothing' from a physics perspective. Like how the entire concept is bullshit as most people understand it. It's worth a read if you like science and nature. It basically covers the evidence for why the raw fabric of 'nothing' is actually something (and what that something is).

Those are usually for SRP to prevent or treat gum disease. In fairness, that *usually* is due to poor hygiene. On average, most people, even the ones with good hygiene, benefit from 2 cleanings and screenings per year.
If you only go when you have a problem, you almost certainly could have caught the issue much earlier and prevented damage or decreased your chances of more serious outcomes, such as tooth or jaw bone loss or infection, including of the heart and other systems.
People can do whatever they want, obviously. But almost everyone is better off going every six months if they can. You can go less and save whatever low amount dental insurance is, but all you're doing is increasing your odds of health problems to save a few bucks a month.
I saw a young guy in the emergency department a few months ago for what ended up being pericarditis secondary to a dental problem that would have been discovered on dental xrays and exams before it became a major problem. He didn't even know the problem was that big yet. A dentist would have known when it was small. Really small. To each their own.

I have a personality trait that makes probing beliefs for weakness difficult to avoid. I do it nearly constantly for my own beliefs. I'm uncomfortable thinking or believing something without evidence or testing. I'm finding that a lot of people don't like that.
Maybe I'm just an asshole. Maybe it's my delivery. I especially struggle with ambiguity, such as when people ask my opinion when they really just want me to affirm their own belief or opinion.
I feel duty bound to give my honest opinion when asked. I really struggle to understand why so many people ask for opinions they don't actually want or initiate discussions regarding beliefs they have no intention of questioning or explaining.
I'm thinking it may just be best to wish people good luck and/or just disengage.

The noncustodial experience is dogshit. I wouldn't count on any of it as a replacement for my current fiat payment methods.
Using on chain is usually impractical, especially for many small payments.
I don't see the point if I'm just using centralized Lightning services anyway. I'm better off saving the fees/tax accounting headaches by just spending fiat.
I know this is unpopular and inconsistent with the hype, but I'm being honest.
Noncustodial Lightning sucks. eCash has been an even worse experience.
I'm sure things will improve, but there are far too many people kidding themselves. This shit would be a nightmare for merchants and customers if it were actually used broadly in a noncustodial way.

I don't think robbing Apple of their property rights is an example of nature healing. Don't publish on their servers if you don't like their rules. Don't buy their devices if you don't really want them. Don't develop for their platform if you don't like how they treat developers. Don't use their products if you don't like how they treat users.
But all of that's nonsense. Nah. It's much better to keep buying their shit (that you obviously don't really want) and building for their garbage platform while running to daddy government to force them to be what you want them to be.
Buy other hardware. Use other software. Build for other platforms. You may feel like you're winning, but all of this just expands government power and reduces property rights.

That could be a good thing in a way. Maybe the protocol will be so prolific that people like me won't go searching for applications that use it. We will just find things like we do now and have it integrate well with other stuff. But as an early adopter and tester, I'd like to find cool projects easier. I should have specified that. I have to dig quite a lot to find things. But I could also do more to solve the problem by documenting them as I go. Writing is something I'm considering for after graduation this year, among other things.

Nostr apps discovery will get really chaotic at some point because we’ll have tens of thousands of nostr native or nostr enabled apps.

It's especially demoralizing when you know how easy Lightning is.

Fiat transaction system is so painful every time. Bottlenecks and gates at every step. It’s a wonder the economy functions at all in these rusty pipes.

It's amazing how much bullshit is in US food now. I'm just making a lot of stuff like that these days. I'm sure it's better in Japan. Can't be worse

My mother in law got me some premium tomatoes. 🍅
I’m excited. Just thinking what I’m going to do to them 🤔

I make a simple sauce that I really like. Roasted tomatoes, butter, salt, and half an onion (uncut). I slow cook it. Really easy and good.

UX is seemingly a lost art.
Desktop textbook e-readers are a great example. They try to imitate the experience of a physical book to the point that they completely neglect the features that would make the digital experience better. For example, loading a new page using left and right icons. I have to click an arrow to change pages.
WHY ARE THERE PAGES? Turning a book page isn't a desirable feature. It's just a limitation of the physical book. I have to turn the page, so I do.
I shouldn't have to turn a page on a desktop computer. I have a mouse. It scrolls. You're already forcing me to use it to click arrows, so why not just keep scrolling the page like we've already been conditioned to do on digital devices?
Some of the readers are so insane that they even add animations to simulate a page turn, so I have to wait for that to finish to continue reading.
What the fuck is going on in the software world?

It feels like even with current tools, one can create just about any app without any dev knowledge. Things are getting wild.

I think the bulk of the concern is around regulation that affects those who want to self-custody and use it as money, not those who buy into a Blackrock ETF. Blackrock may not necessarily care about the individual users, even if that is a large part of the value. Companies sometimes do dumb shit.

It’s puzzling that there are people still worried about bitcoin regulation when Blackrock and Fidelity are already in.
These entities control the world. If they are in, you’re fine. Relax.
