If you try to turn profits in the incubation stage, you inevitably strangle growth and quality suffers.
That's why grants have turned out to be such a problematic model: people usually view them as personal income and spend them on rent and food, rather than seeing them as investment income in a business they are building, that should be reinvested in making that business grow. That's why they slow or stop working, when the grants run out, or they jump to some other project, to collect grant monies for that. They haven't bothered building something that *generates income*, so their economic incentive to continue the effort evaporates.
And that's why they only write code, rather than build infrastructure and processes: you can just drop code and walk away, with no bills, no staff, no contracts, and no further expectations of services delivered.
Slam, bam, thank you ma'am, but make it FOSS.

Would any devs be interested in quality feedback as a service?
I think my track record around here speaks for itself in this regard, but nostr:npub1syjmjy0dp62dhccq3g97fr87tngvpvzey08llyt6ul58m2zqpzps9wf6wl and nostr:npub1jlrs53pkdfjnts29kveljul2sm0actt6n8dxrrzqcersttvcuv3qdjynqn in particular can vouch for my constructive suggestions that have helped them improve their clients.
You can also see my attention to detail, user-experience perspective, and knowledge of the protocol in my reviews of #Primal and #Amber and my #Nostrversity article about Nostr Wallet Connect at my website (built on npub.pro): https://www.nostr-reviews.com
I would love to be able to produce more content like that, but I have a 9-5 job that severely limits my output. If I could ditch it to focus on Nostr education and feedback for the developers, I would do it in a heartbeat, but I also need to feed the family. π

Follow lists are the solution to the problem of finding some particular subset of items (in this case, npubs) within a very large set. A set the size of "all Twitter users" or "all Instagram users", for example.
They are a solution to a problem we do not have.
Our problem is the opposite:
We have lots of disparate data sets and need to find particular items somewhere in them.

Nostr has its own pool of toxic cyber hornets and now everyone is butthurt and like,
No, be nice, bro. Just go along to get along, bro. There is nothing worth fighting for, bro. It's just a protocol, bro. Nobody cares about software, bro. Twitter had great UX, bro.
GN, bros!
Stay ungovernable.
Stay uncensorable.
Stay weird.
And GFY. π«‘

GM.
No makeup selfie, today. Wearing my glasses because being half-blind makes me look smarter.
Bored because we're halfway through moving house and now progress has ground to a halt. Moving any single thing now requires moving everything, and shifting our life-middle-point to the new apartment. And it keeps snowing.
So, everyone is just like, nevermind then.

I've been thinking this, lately, as well.
Most newbies don't actually want to show up and see a feed full of #devs arguing about algorithms and tiered storage, or whatnot. That's an immediate turn-off, even if it sometimes gets more interesting for users, once they've figured out how all this stuff works.
Lots of devs actually have OtherTopics. They just rarely post about them because the dev-y stuff is what gets clicks (from other devs). Since devs are inclined to stay on Nostr, however, and there are so many devs, it would be better for all of us if they/we talked more about our OtherTopics and there be a dev community relay where we could talk our dev stuff.
So, I started one, that I will manually curate:
https://devs.nostr1.com/
It just picks up keywords that sound "devish", like "C++" or "NDK" or "devs".

I'll eventually have a python version, for #Alexandria, but I'm in charge of PHP implementations, so I'm doing a couple of small projects with that, to warm up. I was just doing databases for a couple of years.
I like the PHP Helper library, tho. Recommend.
